Archangel Quiz
So there's a meme going around about the Belief-O-Matic Quiz, which I don't want to do because the questions are so very vague. But then they had another quiz which was the Which Archangel Are You? Quiz.

This was intriguing to me because I've been taking a seminar on John Milton, and most of it has been studying Paradise Lost, in which two of the four archangels are major characters.

Well, my result on the quiz was Raphael, which made me happy, because he's pretty much my favorite character in Paradise Lost, and because one of my dearest friends is named Raphael, so I feel connected to the name, at any rate.

Reading the whole Bible is quite a task. I tried it once; I liked Genesis and Exodus, struggled through Leviticus, and gave up halfway through Numbers. After that I just skipped around and read the parts I thought were interesting, mostly the Apocrypha.

Honestly, you don't have to read the actual Book of Tobit; just read this summary, and you've got the general idea. :)

Well, the guy who edited my Milton book summarized it in the PL footnotes, and it was pretty cool.

I've heard it recommended that you should read one chapter a day and that's a good way to do it, so I think I'll try that and see how it goes.

I definitely want to read all the Apocrypha/Deutero-canon, though, because otherwise what's the point of having a separate Bible from the Protestants?

Well, there are other reasons; the NAB is scholarly and non-sexist, so those are good reasons too, but from all I've heard of the Deutero-canon there are some good stories in there.
