So, on the one hand, there's obviously been some lousy stuff going on the past few weeks and months, spanning the entire spectrum from the minorly irritating to the incomprehensibly tragic. And unfortunately, a lot the repercussions of that stuff are going to carry over into the new year as well.
But you know what? While all that terrible/rotten stuff bothers me on various levels, it also makes me realize how much I have to be grateful for. Life is such a precarious thing; really, if you think about it, just surviving from one day to another is such a gift.
And you know what else? The more I think about it, the more I'm even grateful for the sorrows and misfortunes I've experienced in my life. Some of them I'm still struggling to work through, but still, I really believe that you can't fully appreciate the joys that life has to offer until you've experienced genuine sorrow. I don't think the heart can ever truly experience the greatest depths of feeling until it's been broken at least once.
So, in that spirit of gratitude, I wanted to share this song with you. There are some noticeable anachronisms in it, but the message is timeless:
You're all such special people. May you each be blessed this Christmas season and in the year to come.
