So my choice for today has no real rhyme or reason to it, I just picked it because I watched it and it made me laugh really hard.
The weather man predicts a chance of rain, and so Ernie prepares for a possible flood.
I don't have a lot to say about this one. I guess I just want to point out that getting carried away by things is another of Ernie's salient personality traits that you'll probably see over the course of the year. Another thing I want to point out: Jim Henson once said (at least once) that when he was doing the Bert & Ernie pieces with Frank Oz, they would do a lot of ad-libbing. Sometimes it's more obvious than others, but I think you hear it a little bit in this sketch. For example, I'm very doubtful that Bert's line "you put groceries on me" was in the script.
Watching it again, I notice that there are multiple camera angles, which is kind of unusual for a Bert & Ernie sketch. Also, you can hear some good Foley work once Ernie puts on his galoshes, or maybe Jim Henson just put on galoshes himself. Either way, it's those subtle little touches that really give these characters life; it's easy to forget--not just to suspend disbelief but to actually forget--that Ernie doesn't have any feet.
