I've yet to fully appreciate the potential of the internets in general, and YouTube in particular. For some reason it never occurred to me to ever look to see if the video for the '80s hit "Take On Me" by A-ha! was on YouTube, yet here it is! Who knew it was available to be viewed whenever I wished? It's like Dorothy finding out that she had the power to go home all along by her magical shoes.

This is one of the first music videos I ever saw. When I was a kid we didn't have cable, so I never watched MTV, but there was a Saturday morning cartoon called "Kidd Video" that used to feature music videos at the end of it. I don't remember anything about the actual show, nor do I remember any of the other music videos featured on it, but I remember the one for "Take On Me" because I already knew the song and because it's just damn awesome.

Is it just me, or does the lead singer whose name I don't know have the most amazing vocal range ever? Seriously, how many other human beings can sing all the notes that comprise the chorus? On the occasions that I have sung this song in public (mostly karaoke) people always seem to be impressed when I hit the high notes, which is always somewhat mystifying to me, because I'm a woman. It would be much more impressive for me to hit the low notes, which I can't do.

It's funny, I've listened to this song more times than I can count, I've sung it at karaoke twice, and I still don't know all the lyrics. And even those I do know, I don't really understand. Exactly how would one go about "taking on" someone? What exactly does that involve? I don't know, and frankly I don't care.
