Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the frozen water...

Today I was catching up on the figure skating news that I neglected to pay attention to during the summer, only to find out that...Plushenko's back. It sounds like it went down pretty much the way I thought it would, with the Russian skating union interceding on his behalf and the ISU apparently deciding that it wasn't worth fighting about. At this point, I tend to agree with them; in a way it's almost a relief because now they can stop speculating about it. There's still a question of when he will return to competition, but it's only a matter of time.

In mildly related and (to me) much more exciting news...Evan Lysacek is also back, AND he has a quad! I guess that means I should edit my icon, haha (but I won't). He is scheduled to compete at Skate America in October (the first of the Grand Prix events) and I am practically giddy with anticipation.

Meanwhile, it seems like there has been quite a lot of upheaval among US pairs and ice dance teams, many of which have broken up and reshuffled over the summer. See, this is one reason why it's so hard for me to invest in pairs' skating: I finally get to the point where I start learning people's names and who skates with whom, and then they switch everything up on me!
