Last week I finished reading The Help (which I'd received as a Christmas present) and I loved it. I placed a hold request on the DVD with the library, so I hope to see the movie soon. I wish I could see it before the Golden Globes on Sunday, but that's probably not going to happen because it had quite a large queue.
Speaking of movies, I went to see War Horse on Sunday and I loved that too, in spite of the violence. What surprised and impressed me the most about it was the sound. With surround sound, the louder noises (e.g. galloping horses' hooves, mortars exploding) could be felt as well as heard, which added to the illusion of being there. But even more impressive was the way that they captured the distinct quiet noises that horses make. Those sounds really transformed Joey (and, to a lesser extent, the other horses) from a picture on a screen to a living presence.
Anyway, two thumbs up all around.
