A Prayer

God in heaven, gracious Father, You allowed George W. Bush to be elected the leader of our nation; he considers himself to be your faithful servant. Give him Your wisdom so that he may see all the consequences of his actions; let him not be blinded by his own ambition. Let him be humble enough to admit that he may have been wrong; let him not be afflicted by Emerson's "foolish consistency...the hobgoblin of little minds."

As for me, please give me peace within, so that I may work for peace without. Help me to believe once more in your ultimate control and that good will come out of everything, even that which was not good to begin with. Help me to remember that I am not to judge what is good and bad. Like St. Francis, make me a channel of your peace. Help me to forgive my grievances with our president, since waging a personal war of rhetoric with him will not bring about peace. Give me the wisdom to know the right actions to take and the right time to take them.

I ask these things of you humbly, yet with an urgency. I ask these things in the name of Jesus, because it is said in the Bible that all things asked in Jesus' name will be given us. And yet, I pray, as Jesus did in the garden of Gethsemane, "thy will be done." For you alone know what is best, better than any one person, be it president or pedant.
